Shun drugs, HK star tells youths
KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Kong superstar Alan Tam reminded youths to stay away from drugs, and addicts not to repeat their mistakes.
“We cannot always repeat our mistakes. If you have an opportunity to start over again, you have to appreciate it,” said Tam when he visited the National Narcotics Agency camp in Sungai Besi here yesterday.
Tam said the camp inmates should face their problems and not take the easy way out by depending on drugs.
Tam and singers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Malaysia spent an hour at the camp to see how the agency helped inmates.
“We are here to encourage them to get back to society. We hope they will be able to start a new life (after going through the treatment).

“We should support them and find out ways to help them get back into society,” he said.
Tam and the singers are here for the TVB8’s Anti-Drug Concert today, in support of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26.
The concert, which will be held at Jalan Bukit Bintang here, is organised by TVB8. The concert is held under the auspices of the Internal Security Ministry, National Drugs Agency Campaign Secretariat and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
Tam will be at the concert with his latest sidekick Hacken Lee. Also performing in the three-hour show that starts at 8pm are Shawn Yue, Emme Wong, Jade Kwan, Hins Cheung, Angela An, May Day, Energy, Fish Leong, Danny One, Sunday Yu, Ron Ng, Kevin Cheng, Raymond Lam and Steve Chou.
Derek Li will join Oscar Li, Paisley Hu and Queenie Chan as hosts for the night.
Meanwhile, KL Monorail will extend its operational hours to 1.30am tomorrow in conjunction with the concert.
KL Monorail will also collaborate with the STAR light rail transit system, Projek Usahasama Transit Ringan Automatik (Putra-LRT) Sdn Bhd, Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) and Express Rail Link (ERL) to provide transport services to the public.
Several roads around the Bukit Bintang area will be closed to traffic today, and the public are advised to use public transport.
