Even his fans from Shanghai, Beijing, the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore turned up!

Although he appeared slightly rotund, Tam’s energy and stamina onstage would put younger performers to shame, as he ran through 50 songs during the concert, living up to his famous declaration of being ‘25 every year’.

Although he mostly let his music do the talking, his charisma and sense of humour shone through in his interaction with fans during the concert.

“Women are multi-faceted — they can be angels or devils,” he said, before presenting a medley of songs about women, beauties and ‘goddesses’.

Tam also did a duet with sexy guest singer Emme Wong, who wore a midriff-revealing outfit and displayed miles of legs.

Although Tam also included a number of less familiar Mandarin songs and his pronunciation was not up to par, he more than compensated for it by singing a host of his classic hits, mostly love songs such as Romance in the Mist, Root of Love, Greatest Love in Life and Love in Deep Autumn.

“I am lucky to have many songs that are still well loved,” he told his fans, who transformed the cavernous stadium into a virtual karaoke joint, singing along to his songs with their hands waving in unison.

As Tam re-emerged onstage after an encore, he brought the atmosphere up a notch, urging his fans to stand up and come forward to the stage. Many obliged, while the others stood up on their seats and danced as the singer belted out Man Who Chases The Wind, Summer’s Chill Wind, and more classic hits before culminating with fan-favourite Friends.

He finally brought the evening to a close at midnight with Can’t Say Goodbye to end a magical and nostalgic night that only Alan Tam could bring.

|
